I recently read a post on clutchmagazineonline.com which stood up to the media that has often tried to determine what makes us beautiful as women of color. The author boldly voiced her thoughts, that we no longer care what society thinks about our curves or our skin color, but are our dollars saying otherwise? Cosmetics is a billion dollar industry that has survived our economic crisis and is still striving. We must be contributing to the numbers because dermatologists are shifting their attention to the growing skin of color demographic. In fact, patients with skin of color spent nearly $3 billion dollars on cosmetic procedures last year.

Put your money where your mouth is... Tell me where you are spending your hard earned cash. Is it on your hair, makeup, skin care, cosmetic procedures or some else? Do you believe women of color are no longer seeking approval from mass media? Tell me why.

I have strong belief in the Law of Attraction.  Recently, I was able to grab a copy of the book written by Michael J. Losier in my local Half Price Book Store for only less than $7. In my opinion the information and worksheets are priceless because if you can learn how to control your thoughts that can be a powerful tool.  Consider how you would use the power to turn lead into gold, if you were an Alchemist.  The ability to control what you attract into your life is just as magnificent and just as powerful. The secret is, you already possess the power to bring whatever it is that you want into your life.

A lot of clients believe that their skin or their weight problems exist because of family, but I am sure they can name several people who have beautiful glowing skin and are slender and healthy despite their family genes.  Who you want to be and what you want to be can all be attracted to your life.

You have the ability to change your habits, make different decisions that will improve your skin conditions, add nutritional value to your diet and bring your self new opportunities all with the power of your positive thoughts. Here are a few ways to attract more beauty in your life.

  1. You must believe that you can control your thoughts
  2. Redirect negative thoughts and continuously reform your negative speech to positive (i.e. remove words like no, not, can't, won't and never from your vocabulary by expressing what it is you would rather be true/what it is that you want)
  3. Practice gratitude for small accomplishments that lead to big change, because this is proof that you are attracting positive things in your life. Proof strengthens faith!
  4. Working diligently with a positive spirit emits positive vibes that attract more and more positivity into your life.
  5. Eventually what you desire will come to you because you are acting in faith. Just as a carpenter lays bricks one by one with the intent of building a house, walls began to form. This is how you should work towards your beauty goals. If you would like clearer skin, follow your regimen, visualize yourself with clearer skin and trust that the outcome will be vibrant, even skin within a matter of time.

As of lately, I've been watching a lot of urban films on Netflix that revolve around dating (My Dysfunctional Friends, He's Mine Not Yours, 35 &Ticking),  read a few blog posts coupled with one book I said, I never wanted to read, "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man". There are so many self-help love books for women, that tell us everything we are doing wrong, by boycotting this book I thought it would encourage some males to evaluate themselves seeing as how it takes two to tango. After seeing the movie and really enjoying it, I wanted to see if the book was as entertaining.

I have to admit, all this relationship talk has me thinking about my own single life...
At first I thought nothing of the extra attention my mind had been giving to these more frequent thoughts (do I really want children, do I see myself married in 5 years, why am I really single and what do I think of the current prospective hubbies in my life now?). I realized I was giving it more thought than necessary and I started worrying about the wrong things... I know better than anyone else what I need is to pay more attention to myself, my goals and my health. Here are 20 beauty activities for single women to do rather than sit at home worrying themselves about a man or lack there of...
  1. Go to the spa!
  2. Paint your nails more often
  3. Read beauty blogs
  4. Get more beauty rest
  5. Practice along with YT makeup tutorials
  6. Give yourself a DIY facial
  7. Make yourself a fruit smoothie
  8. Journal about your beauty goals
  9. Clean your makeup bag... Toss out old products
  10. Read fashion or beauty magazines
  11. Create a beauty vision board that defines your beauty
  12. Window shop at Sephora, Ulta or MAC
  13. Test fragrances at a lotion and perfume shop
  14. Give your hair and scalp a deep condition or some other treatment
  15. Create and listen to a beauty playlist
  16. Whiten your teeth
  17. Shape your eyebrows
  18. Make over a friend
  19. Attend a fashion show
  20. Host a beauty mix for you and your other single friends

I recently went out with some girlfriends and we shared some details about our dating experience and swapped advice about our current men woes. Just for kicks and giggles we decided to do something out of the ordinary one Saturday night... we visited a psychic. It was pour down rain and 11:30 at night. I kid you not, I felt like I was stepping into a horror film as the three of us walked into this woman's house and dried our shoes on her front door mat.

I check my horoscope often, but I really was not too sure about taking what the psychic had to say too serious.  Although I don't think tarot cards, crystals, and palm readings are Godly, I do believe visions and the future can be revealed to people.  I honestly was terrified she would tell me something horrible I did't want to hear about mine or a loved one's death or that she'd have someone from the dead speak through one of my friends' bodies. You know, something like what I'd seen in the movie Ghost.  She was able to share a few things about my life - past, present and future that seemed like truth, none of what I thought it would be, but I took it all with a grain of salt. She asked me to come back and see her alone... and my curiosity got the best of me so I went back the very next day, but this convo was not much different from the first. She told me that I have bad karma and that it  is creating a blockage to love and that for $200 she could use some crystals to help me remove the blockage... like she was a plumber repairing a stopped up sink.

Even though this offer seemed quite tempting... it was not much different from what I'm currently doing for free... a program of proper diet and nutrition, special attention to my mental and physical health so that I can live long enough to accomplish my dreams and enjoy my success. I don't care how much money I give to a psychic to use some crystals on me, the blockage I have will take time and more importantly the love that I show myself to remove it. Paying myself more attention doesn't have to cost me a dime. I can predict that the love that I show towards myself, if made the standard I hold to everyone else, will lead me to everything I've ever wanted good fortune, family and fun!

I'm a self motivator, but I know for others getting started on a plan towards the beautiful life you want can be a bit more challenging. Here's a product that I have found to be highly functional - Motives Cosmetics Color Perfection Quad ($35).  It is created to be a cream based foundation that is easy to mix and match to skin. This is THE solution for many women of color who often have a hard time matching their skin with drug store foundations that come packaged and or seldom are a perfect match to cover the rainbow of shades women of color have. It's in my makeup bag because it can be used for four different purposes:
Brow Enhancer
Concealer
Foundation
Eyeshadow Base
